Monocromatic Blues

Remember when we were all young and care-free? When we wore the same colour from head to toe and loved being all matchy-matchy and we didn’t care what others thought? Good times… Eh?

Well, I’m here to tell you that you can still wear the same colour and not end up looking like a drunk baby (Think Telletubies). The secret is in the execution.

Monocromatic dressing is all about dressing in a single color, or different shades of the same color. It works great if you have a statement accessory of a different color that you want to stand out, as all the attention is drawn to that particular piece.

It is actually super simple to execute and looks really chic. All you have to do is follow these two simple rules:

  1. If you are wearing similar hues, ensure that the textures of the pieces are different.
  2. ACCESORIZE!!! You need something that adds that ‘pop’ to your outfit!

For my outfit, I chose to go with different shades of blue… I wore Navy blue pants, a French blue sweater and a Periwinkle blue shirt. I have to admit, I’d never heard of a ‘Periwinkle Blue’ until I started doing my research on this post. Is it even a real? Sounds like a Harry Potter character if you ask me. What happened to the 7 colours on the rainbow? Hues are complicated and downright misleading.

Remember rule number 2? No… Don’t scroll up! You need to pay attention. You won’t get this kind of advice anywhere else (Basks in shameless self-promotion.. hehe). Accessorize!

I chose to break the blue hues with brown accessories. I wore a leather strap MK watch. Yeah yeah, me and Michael Kors share initials, big deal. I wore my brown Hermes belt and completed the look with brown dress shoes.

Oh! And my advice here is universal, so it applies to the ladies too. I’d love to know what y’all think about the Monocromatic trend in the comments section below!
